" Deoghar The City of Temple in Jharkhand "


Deoghar is popularly renowned as Baidyanath Dham, is considered as the house of gods and goddesses and Deoghar is perfectly located in the Santhal Parganas of the state Jharkhand. Deoghar is blessed with the presence of one of the 12 Jyotirlinga temples known as temple of Baba Baidyanath and this temple is an ancient temple and is a famous Hindu religious destination.

It is a very prominent destination of Hindu Pilgrimage perfectly placed at the backdrop of scenic urroundings and Deoghar town is regarded as one of the calmest and unexplored city in the state and the aesthetic ambiance provides eternal feelings to mind and body. 
It is believed that the Baidyanath (Vaidyanath) Jyotirlingam in Deogarh is associated with legendary stories of Ravana and Lord Shiva and it was at this place Ravana cut off his nine heads to repent and Lord Shiva blessed him by joining back all his heads like a Vaidya. The temple is very famous with thousands of devotees offer their prayers with great devotion and reverence and the Shivalinga here is adorned majestically with jewels and pearls. One can get all kinds of prosperity and long life by praying in this holy place.
The Deoghar town witnesses huge flow of pilgrims every day and Mahashivaratri is a major festival season in Deoghar. Deoghar adorn all types of decorations and illuminations during this season. Fairs and processions mark the festival occasions of this town snd places of tourist attractions include Chandrakoopa Well, Deoghar Archaeological Museum, Sivaganga Lake and Harila Joria. Here satsang Ashram is another attraction, which is an important destination for the devotees of Sri Sri Thakur Anukul Chandra

Deogarh is  pilgrimage center that is located in the State of Jharkhand and the nearest airport is located at Udaipur which is located at 135 km from the city. There are frequent taxi services that are available at the airport. Tourists can opt for prepaid taxis that are comfortable and taxis from Udaipur cost around Rs 1700 for the trip to Deogarh.
The closest railway station is located at Baidyanath Dham and travelers who are arriving by train have to disembark at the station and take a taxi to the city. The railway station is located around 7 km from the city also auto rickshaws and taxis are available outside the station.
There are jeeps also plying from the station to the city and the fare is usually charged on a per person basis. Some of the local travel options are tongas, autorickshaws, un-metered taxis and cycle rickshaws and tongas charge around Rs400 for a trip to one of the places of interest in the town. This may or may not include the waiting charges also unmetered taxis are another option and they charge between Rs 700 to Rs 1000 a day. They are the most comfortable option and cycle rickshaws are available for short distances and the prices are varied and depend on the destination.

Basukinath - It is famous for its Shiva Temple, and the pilgrimage to Babadham is considered incomplete, without paying homage at Basukinath and it is situated 43 km from Deoghar near the village of Jarmundi and connected by road. It is an indigenous temple bearing local art.
Satsanga Ashram - a holy place for devotees of Shri Shri Thakur Anukulchandra.In the south-west of Deoghar there is a big Ashram established by Sri Sri Anukul Chandra which is called Satsang Ashram and it is related with the sect of Radhaswami. It is a universal reforming Ashram and working for the betterment of humanity and here people from India and abroad visit this Ashram every year.
Naulakha Mandir - It is situated 1.5 km away from Baba Baidyanath Temple and it is a nice visiting spot and  this temple looks like the temple of Ramakrishna in Belur. Inside it there are idols of Radha - Krishna. Its height is 146 feet and the amount spent in construction of the temple was about Rs. 900,000 (9 lakhs),it became known as Naulakha Temple.
Rama Krishna Mission (RK Mission) - a boarding school run by monks of RK Mission and the campus is full of greenery and has 12 football fields and the Ramkrishna Mission Vidyapith, a branch of Ramkrishna Mission, Belur Math, Howrah district, was established in 1922 with the objective of imparting modern education combined with the values of our ancient culture in the lines of the ancient Gurukula.
 Tapovan - Situated 10 km from Deoghar,there is a temple of Shiva which is the centre of attraction for pilgrims and the temple of Shiva is called Taponath Mahadeva. A number of caves are found in this hill. In one of the caves, a Shiva lingam is installed and It is said that Sage Valmiki came here for penance,here Sri Sri Balananda Brahmachari obtained Siddhi (success through penance).

Rikhia Ashram - This Bihar School of Yoga (Sri Sri Panch Dashanam Paramhansa Alakhbarah) was established by Swami Satyananda Saraswati and thousand of devotees from different corners of the world participate in an fair an annual festival and ceremony which is held in late November to early December. Foreigners are seen often in the town, especially between November and February and this ashram is indeed a sacred place and its charitable deeds greatly benefits the welfare of the local villages.
Shivganga - Situated just 200 meters away from Baidyanath Temple,when Ravana was taking the lingam to Lanka, he felt the urge for urination and he handed over the lingam to a brahmin and went for urintation. After urination, he needed to wash his hands and be purified before holding the lingam and  when he did not find any water source nearby, he made a blow with his fist on the earth and water came out and formed a pond here pond is now known as Shivaganga.

Harila Jori - Harila Jori is situated in the northern side of Deoghar, 8 km away from Baidyanath temple and 5 km away from Tower chowk during ancient times, the area was full of Haritaki (Myrobalan) trees and this was the place where Ravana handed over the lingam to lord Visnu disguised as a brahmin, and went for urination a stream flows here and is known as Ravana Jori.
Trikuth Parvat - It is situated 13 km away from Deoghar on the way to Dumka and  there are three main peaks on the hill which is why it is called Trikutachal and the height of this hill is 2,470 feet (750 m). There is also a temple of Shiva at this place known as Trikutachal Mahadeva Temple and it is the mouth of river Mayurakshi. Here we also find an altar of the goddess of Trishuli and it is an attractive place with a cool stream flowing .

Weather in Deoghar
Deoghar is located at 24°29′N 86°42′E / 24.48°N 86.7°E / 24.48; 86.7, and it has an average elevation of 254 metres (833 feet).Deoghar has a picturesque location and  the north of the town there is a wood called Data Jungle after a fakir; to the north-west is a low wooded hill called Nandan Pahar; and to the east about 10 miles away there is a low range of hills known as Tiur or Trikutaparvata. There are a number of small hills to the south-east, south and southwest and there are two rivulets Yamunajor and Dharua near thewn and  the countryside around Deoghar has an attractive set-up with undulations, water courses and small hills.
The climate is dry and congenial and Deoghar is still considered a health resort in spite of the great congestion particularly due to the temple of Vaidyanath (also spelled Baidyanath), as well as having the criminal and civil courts and a large number of Government establishments.
The nearest railway station is Baidyanathdham. Jasidih junction is about 7 km from Baidyanathdham railway station, which is on the main line of Howrah-Delhi route of Indian railway and it is about 229 km from Patna (capital of Bihar) and 322 km from Ranchi (capital of Jharkhand) and about 315 km from Kolkata (capital of West Bengal).
Deoghar also known as Baidyanath Dham is an important Hindu Pilgrimage Deoghar and it is one of the twelve jyotirlingas, and also one of the 51 saktipeeths and is famous for the mela of Shrawan (5th month according to the Hindu calendar system). It is the only place in India where the jyotirlinga and the saktipeeth are together and they lay side by side. Each year between July and August about 7 to 8 million devotees come from various part of India to offer holy water from the Ganges at Sultangunj—almost 108 km from Deoghar—to present it to Shiva.
